After the foundation of the Turkish Republic in Ankara, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk transferred all government functions to the youthful capital but on his visits to Istanbul Ataturk occupied only a small room at Dolmabahce Palace as his own. He stayed, welcomed his foreign guests and made a practical center for national, historical and language congress and for international conferences.
How to go to Dolmabahce Palace?
Dolmabahce Palace is on Istanbul’s European side of the Bosphorus, walking distance from the Kabatas tram and bus stops, and ferry terminal. It’s also a short walk from the Besiktas bus stops and ferry ports.
You can take a tram from the Sultanahmet T1 to Kabatas it is about 5 minutes walk away. To go to Dolmabahce palace from Taksim Square take a Finicular to Kabatas.
Dolmabahce Palace Opening Hours
Dolmabahce Palace is open to visit from 9:00 to 16:00. Altough the main building is closed at that time, the other sections can be visited until 17:00. The Palace is closed on Mondays.

Ticket price for Dolmabahce Palace
The entrance fee of Dolmabahce Palace is 90 Turkish Liras as of 2020. If you want to visit the Harem section, you will have to pay 60 TL extra. The fee for the combined ticket including the Palace, Harem and Clock Tower is 120 TL. The ticket price includes an audio guide system. In addition, there is another combined ticket that costs 150 Lira. This ticket contains another section called “Museum of Palace Collections” where the paintings are displayed on top of the places I have mentioned in the top lines. After receiving the ticket you will see the turnstiles at the entrance of the palace. You can get a free audio guide system from the office on the left before you pass the turnstiles.
